About Us
The Bascule House is a Level II alcohol- and drug-free men’s transitional living home in Lorain, Ohio. Inspired by the city’s historic bascule bridge, we provide a safe, structured space where residents can find balance during life’s transitions.
Our home is designed to feel welcoming and supportive — offering shared living, essentials, and community connection. More than housing, we provide an environment built on accountability, respect, and encouragement, helping residents move toward stability and independence with confidence.
Our Story
The Bascule House was born from personal experience and a deep connection to our community. Coming from a family that experienced heavy addiction, we know how difficult the path to recovery can be — and how essential it is to have a safe, stable place to begin that journey.
For us, this is more than housing. It’s about giving back to the community we grew up in, providing something powerful and meaningful that is truly needed.
We believe that having a safe, clean, and supportive home is more than half the battle in recovery. Without that foundation, it’s nearly impossible to build a new future.
The Bascule House represents both healing and hope — a chance for individuals to find balance, accountability, and encouragement while working toward long-term stability. By offering this type of living environment, we’re not only supporting residents, but also helping to strengthen and uplift the community as a whole.

What we are not?
The Bascule House is not a treatment or clinical facility.
We do not provide medical care or counseling onsite, but we connect residents with outside
resources that support recovery and independence.
A list of our partners and network connections will be displayed on the site.
The Bascule House gave me more than a roof over my head — it gave me structure, support, and a real chance to rebuild my life. The shared chores, curfews, and community meetings helped me stay on track, and I always felt safe here. It’s more than just a house — it’s a place that genuinely cares about your growth.

Coming out of treatment, I didn’t know where to go next. The Bascule House was exactly what I needed. The environment is clean, calm, and respectful. Everyone here is focused on moving forward, and that energy really motivated me. I’m grateful for the structure and the accountability — it changed my life.

I’ve stayed at a few transitional houses, but nothing compares to The Bascule House. The way they combine independence with community support is powerful. They don’t just give you a place to sleep — they help you build a future. I’m now working full-time and planning to move into my own place soon, and it all started here.
